An Expedition to Catch Costa Rica’s Most Iconic Gamefish
Chasing Costa Rica’s “big three” is a coast-to-coast adventure of legendary proportions. While it can be done in a single day using a helicopter, we’ve expanded our Costa Rican Grand Slam expedition into a week in order to maximize opportunity for success as well as allow for full enjoyment of the experience of traveling across this small but mega-diverse country.
Starting in the Pacific, we first battle it out against one the ocean’s fastest fish, the sailfish. We then travel to the highlands to test dry fly presentation in the Talamanca mountains, where small streams full of rainbow trout trickle through the cloud forest. Finally to cap the slam, we head to the Caribbean where giant tarpon abound in both ocean and river.
The trip is fully customizable and various factors influence the final design of each itinerary. Traveling through the various Costa Rican landscapes will afford ample opportunity for wildlife encounters, and a combination of ecotourism activities can make this a true family or small group adventure.
